General Rules
1. Be Polite
While characters may be racist, sexist, homophobic, or a million other kinds of rude, it is not tolerable in members. We don't appreciate humor of that nature, and if you are threatening, intimidating, or harassing a fellow member through the site or in the chat box, you will be banned. If you have a problem with someone, talk to a staff member.2. Etiquette
Do not god-mode and steal other people's characters or give your character powers they don't actually possess, like mind reading. Make sure that your character has given the other people in the thread something to respond to, either in words or in actions, instead of only including internal monologues. Don't hijack threads, and ask before joining an ongoing thread between characters.
If you are planning to be gone for a while, please let us know in the absence section so that no fellow players are left hanging. Don't harass people for new posts either in the chat box or through private messages.
3. Writing
This site has no set minimum word count, and we do not require a certain amount of experience for players. Nonetheless, you are expected to maintain proper spelling and grammar so that others can understand your writing. Please post in-character posts as 3rd person unless you are creating a journal or diary.
Portuna is rated PG-13, so please keep your posts within an acceptable limit. If we see something that is problematic, we will remove the post and inform you to adjust your writing. That said, sometimes it is important to deal with a difficult issue, such as child abuse or self harm, in a thread. If you suspect your topic may be a problem for some readers, post a trigger warning at the top of the thread. Any major life-changing events such as death or pregnancy should be discussed with the staff first.
4. Graphics and Displays
You can change your avatar, main mini-profile picture, and signature on this site. These graphics should all relate to your character. Your avatar is a square photo which displays in your sidebar and in miniature within your mini-profile to show if you are online. It will automatically resize to fit in a 150x150 space. Your mini-profile picture is the 200x300 pixel image that displays when you make a post. You can replace this image by editing your profile and filling in a url link under the space "200x300 image" under your personal settings. Your signature should be no larger than 500x300 pixels.
Your display name should include the given and family names of your character. Your alias should either be your character's full name or how they are known in their canon. Under your personal settings when editing your profile, please post a link to your application and to your plot page if you have one. These links will be displayed in your mini-profile.
5. News and Activity Checks
Announcements will be posted in the sidebar, as will information about activity checks. Stay up to date with board changes so that you don't miss anything. If you miss an activity check and you have not mentioned in the absences forum that you will be gone, your character will be retired. You have two weeks after that to check with an administrator and ask for it to be made active again. After that you will need to resubmit your application for review under the pending characters section.
6. Communicate with the Staff
We will do our best to make it easy for you to work on the site and ask in return that you listen to us and make us aware of any problems. If we say that there is a problem, please work to fix the issue as soon as possible. If you need help with something, just ask. You can ask us through the chat box if we are around and you feel comfortable, through the questions and comments thread, or via a personal message.
